What to do if the App is Slow or Unresponsive

A slow or unresponsive app is frustrating, especially when you’re trying to get something done. The good news is that slowness in Enoch File almost always traces back to something outside the app itself — a shaky internet connection, an overloaded browser tab, or a security extension quietly interfering with the connection to Google Drive. This article walks through the checks in the order of “quickest to try, likeliest to fix.”

Before you dig into browser troubleshooting, rule out the network. Slowness often traces back to a poor connection, especially if you’re uploading or importing files, or working on a cellular connection slower than 5G.

  • Try loading a couple of other sites you use every day — YouTube, Gmail, or a favorite news site. If they’re slow too, the problem is bigger than Enoch File. Usually the best thing to do is wait it out.
  • Check that your router is on and working.
  • Run a speed test to confirm you actually have the bandwidth you’re paying for.
  • Check Down Detector to see whether your internet provider or Google itself is having a bad day. Enoch File is built on top of Google’s infrastructure, so if Google Drive or Google’s sign-in service is degraded, Enoch File will feel it too.

If any of those turn up a problem, sort it out first and see whether Enoch File speeds up when you fix your network.

If your connection looks fine, work through these in order. Each one is a little more disruptive than the last, so try them from the top.

  1. Hard-refresh the app. Press Ctrl+F5 on Windows or Cmd+Shift+R on Mac to force the browser to reload the page from scratch and clear any cached files that might be misbehaving.

  2. Log off properly, then log back on. To log off, click the ⓧ circle-X icon in the top right corner of the app, or open the Utility Menu and choose Log Off. Closing the browser tab isn’t the same as logging off — it leaves your session open in the background. Once you’re logged off, log back on. If Google doesn’t ask for your credentials the second time, close the browser tab entirely (or restart the browser), then reopen Enoch File and log in again.

  3. Give the app a moment if you have a lot of files. Cabinets with several thousand or more files can take a few seconds to load. If you’ve recently imported a big batch of documents, run Reindex and Clean Up from the Utility Menu — it helps the app find things faster on subsequent visits.

  4. Try a different browser. Chrome and Safari have the most consistent behavior with Enoch File, but Firefox and Edge should work too. If the app is snappy in a browser you don’t normally use, the problem is with your usual browser’s configuration or extensions.

  5. Check your extensions, VPN, and security software. Security extensions, ad blockers, privacy extensions, and VPNs sometimes update themselves and start blocking things they used to allow. Make sure nothing is blocking third-party cookies for Google’s domains or ours. If in doubt, whitelist both enochfile.com and enochworx.com in your security software and other extensions, or temporarily disable the extension for those domains.

If you’ve worked through everything above and the app is still slow or unresponsive, try opening Enoch File on a different device or over a different network. If it’s fast there, the problem is specific to your usual setup — an extension, a security profile, or a device configuration that isn’t obvious from within the browser itself. If it’s slow on the other device too, reach out through our Support page at enochworx.com/support with a description of what you’re seeing and what you’ve already tried.
