How to Recover a Deleted File

Even with the safety guardrails Enoch File builds in, accidents happen. The good news: if you trashed a file within the last 30 days, you can almost certainly get it back. When you trash a file in Enoch File, it goes to your Google Drive’s trash and stays there for 30 days before Google permanently deletes it. That gives you a recovery window — but only if you act inside it.

Recovering a deleted file

1. Open Google Drive at drive.google.com in a browser.
2. Log in with the same Google Account you use for Enoch File. This matters — Enoch File and Google Drive have to be on the same account, or your trashed file won’t be visible.
3. Click Trash in the left sidebar to see everything Google Drive has deleted in the last 30 days.
4. Find the file, right-click it, and choose Restore. Google will restore the file to your Google Drive.
5. Return to Enoch File and open the Utility Menu.
6. Run Reindex and Clean Up. This tells Enoch File to re-scan your Google Drive and pick up the restored file. See Reindex and Clean Up for more on what this does.

Once Reindex finishes, the file will be back in Enoch File — but the exact location depends on what’s changed since you trashed it.

Where your restored file will land

The restored file will land in one of two places, depending on your cabinet’s history since the deletion:

• If the drawer or folder it lived in still exists, Google restores the file to its original location, and the file will be right where it was before you trashed it.
• If the drawer or folder was deleted after the file was trashed, Google puts the file at the root of your Google Drive instead. Reindex and Clean Up sweeps it into your Unfiled Drawer. To find it, open the Unfiled Drawer by clicking Review Emailed Files — the first entry in the Utility Menu — and use the Move command to send it to wherever you want it now.

Either way, running Reindex and Clean Up is what makes the restored file visible again — that’s why it’s essential after any restore.

The 30-day deadline

Act within 30 days. After that, Google permanently deletes trashed files, and there is no way to bring them back — not through Enoch File, not through Google, not through us.

If you deleted something important more than 30 days ago and Google’s trash no longer shows it, we’re sorry — the file is gone.
