How to import files from Evernote

Importing from Evernote is a two-step process, repeated for each notebook.

Step 1: Open Evernote and right-click on the notebook you want to export. Select "Export Notebook." Make sure ENEX Format is selected and that every box under Export Attributes is checked. Hit Export and save the resulting file to your hard drive.

Step 2: In Enoch File, navigate to the cabinet where you want the Evernote notebook to be stored. Once in the destination cabinet, open the Utility Menu and click "Import from Evernote." Select your ENEX file or drag it to the green landing zone. Your files will be imported into their own drawer. The drawer will have the same name as your old notebook. The files will have the same name as your note. You can leave them there or move them wherever you want them.

Note: If you import multi-part notes, meaning notes that include multiple files or text and one or more files, the import function will create a folder in the drawer. All the elements of the multi-part note will be stored in the folder.

Once importing commences, you will be able to see your progress, as in the image below. Note that while there is a cancel button, consider it for emergency use only. If you cancel and then re-import later, you will create duplicate files.

How to Import Like a Pro:

  • If you have more than four or five notebooks, create a cabinet called "Imported Notebooks" first and switch to it before importing.
  • Start with a small notebook as a test run. By small, we mean only a few dozen notes. This will give you an idea of how the process works and how long it takes to process different file types.
  • If the notebook you wish to import contains 1,000 or more files, expect it to take an hour unless you have a very fast upload connection. In general, images, videos, and other large files take longer than PDFs and Office documents.
  • If you leave your computer unattended during a large upload, disable the sleep function so it doesn't shut off mid-import.
  • If you have Evernote Notebooks that contain thousands of files, consider breaking them into smaller notebooks prior to creating your ENEX file.
  • Your Evernote tags are preserved and searchable in Enoch File.
  • We don't recommend importing Evernote Notebooks while using cellular data.
